1. The first year of studies also comprises two compulsory courses without ECTS, according to the Chinese law:

For non-Chinese Students: “A Survey of China” and “Chinese Language”;

For Chinese Students: “Ideological education” and “English.”

2.  It is mandatory for the MA Thesis to have a comparative character, that is, to address both the Greek and the Chinese Civilization. It is recommended the MA Thesis to be supervised by both a Greek and a Chinese Faculty Member. The MA thesis shall be submitted by the end of June of the 4th Semester and, in any case, not later than the end of September of the same year. Chinese students are expected to also submit their MA Thesis in Chinese.

 

Entry Requirements

The Master’s Program will have two points of entry: prospective students may apply either to the University of Patras or to Southwest University. Admission shall in each case be subject to the regulations of Master’s Studies in Greece and China, respectively.

 For the MA Program you must hold:

A diploma conferring Bachelor’s Degree in a subject area compatible with that of the Master’s Degree under discussion. Such areas might be but not limited to the following: philosophy, history, history of science, classical studies, archaeology.

English Language Requirements

  • For non-Chinese students, command of the English language shall be certified by a specific score in one of the international tests of English language proficiency (for instance, TOEFL, IELS or ΙΒΤ).
  • For Chinese students, command of the English language shall be certified by either the international English proficiency test, or a joint English Proficiency Interview organized by the Committee.
  • For Chinese students who have succeeded in the National Graduate Entrance Examination, no further certification is required.

Candidates are expected to submit their dossier within the time period indicated in the Public Announcement of each year’s Master’s Program and those who are eligible will be invited to an online interview by the Coordinating Committee.

Candidates shall be notified of their selection no later than May, 31 each year.

The Qualification Awards

Upon successful completion of the program:

  • Greek and International Students shall be awarded two separate Master’s Degrees: The one from Southwest University and the other from the University of Patras (on behalf of all Greek parties).
  • Chinese Students who enter the Program through the National Graduate Examination shall be awarded two separate Master’s Degrees: The one from Southwest University and the other from the University of Patras (on behalf of all Greek parties).
  • Chinese Students who enter the Program without taking National Graduate Examination will be awarded a Master’s Degree from the University of Patras.

 

Fees and Funding

2.000 per year [The establishment of the Program is funded by the European Union and therefore the fees are kept to a minimum for the 2023 applicants.]

Students shall pay the tuition fees of the 1st Year of Studies to Southwest University and the tuition fees of the 2nd Year of Studies to the University of Patras.

Scholarships and Bursaries

We are committed to supporting students to get scholarships both from the Greek and the Chinese side.

According to the Greek Law, 30% of the Greek students enrolled in the Program will not pay fees for the second year of studies.
